Old Fashioned School Fete Toffees are a classic sweet recipe, perfect for bake sales. Sugar is combined with water and vinegar, then boiled until golden. Sprinkles with 100's and 1000's, this rock solid "jaw breakers" will keep everyone happy (and quiet hahaha) - give it a go!

RECIPE FACT SHEET

INGREDIENTS IN THIS DISH:

2 Cups of White Sugar
1 Tablespoon of White Vinegar
1/2 Teaspoon of Cream of Tartar (optional - if making soft, chewy toffees)
3/4 Cup of Water
2 Tablespoons of 100's and 1000's / Rainbow Sprinkles etc


Preparation Time:  About 5 minutes
Cooking Time: About 20 minutes

MAKES ABOUT 10 TOFFEES (depending on size)

NOTE: If you have trouble removing the papers from the completed toffees, simply dip them in some water and the papers will peel off easily ;)


ALL MEASUREMENTS GIVEN ARE AUSTRALIAN STANDARD METRIC

  1. Just made these and they are delicious. I used a stainless steel saucepan and my 2 cup glass measuring cup and poured them into mini muffin cups which yielded 20 little toffees. Word of caution, don’t take your eyes of the pot because the mixture can go from a golden Amber to very dark in a matter of seconds, also have a sink full of very hot soapy water ready for fast and easy cleaning, never put your utensils in cold water or the toffee will stick like glue.
